In 2004, Jim took part in the 26 Letters poster project, a collaboration between members of writers’ collective 26 and the ISTD. He was paired with design legend Derek Birdsall, and they were allocated the letter ‘i’. Jim wrote a first-person short story as the boastful I, ‘the Omar Sharif of the alphabet’; Derek set it beautifully and printed it on mirrored paper. Ten years on, for the 26 Words project, Jim was teamed with calligrapher Ann Bowen from Letter Exchange, and randomly given the word ‘Dig’. Their response was a poster for the fictitious Dig It Festival, “three days of underground sounds”, featuring The Sutton Hoo, Rosetta Stone, The Remnants, and many more…
